April 2008 Member of the Month - Matthew Webb

Aprils Member of the Month is Matthew Webb. Matt’s story begins in Jacksonville, NC at Camp Lejeunes’ naval hospital where he was born. When Matt was 9 months old his father was assigned to Vietnam and Okinawa so Matt lived in West Virginia followed by Milwaukee. After his father retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service, they moved to Colorado (Matt was 11). He graduated from University of Colorado at Boulder with an undergraduate degree in Political Science/ Pre-Law. Matt continued his education by attending law school and graduating from American University. Matt is currently employed at the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform as the Vice President of Legal Reform Policy.
Matt started cooking at the early age of 10 and to this day continues this passion. He also enjoys, movies, golf, bicycling and motorcycling (he owns both a cruiser and a crotch rocket). Matt owns a townhouse in Ashburn and shares it with his two cats, Aslan and Lucy. He joined the volunteer system in Ashburn, in August of 2002. In 2007 Matt joined the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department. In April 2007, he joined the Loudoun County Volunteer Rescue Squad and resigned from Ashburn. Matt is currently involved in a project with the leadership of our station and Dr Morgan to establish a guide document for nursing homes on when to call 911. Matt’s passion for learning is evident when you look at his list of certifications. Matt continues to expand his knowledge in both Fire and EMS. He holds certifications as a EMT Intermediate, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, Firefighter 1 and 2, Fire Instructor 1, Fire Officer 1, Swift Water Rescue, and many others. Matt runs on the Saturday night duty crew; and is also know as Medic 1303. Interestingly enough, both people that I spoke with described Matt as having a love for Fire and EMS. When the Saturday night Crew Leader took some time off, Matt agreed to assume the role of Crew Leader, without hesitation. During that time, Matt coordinated the Saturday night staffing. He would send out emails to everyone on shift the night prior with the riding assignments. He made sure duty checks were done, and assisted the crew in weekly trainings. For the outstanding job he did as a fill in and his dedication to our department, Matt is Aprils Member of the Month.
